Hi friends,
Today being the weekend, my first thought after waking up was, “I’ll just have a short prayer time and do my personal business work.” I was quick to set my thoughts right and didn’t go ahead with my initial thought. However, I sat down to pray but my heart was feeling distant from God. So, I started examining why I was feeling that way and I remembered how I was previously allowing thoughts to just do things as I want to instead of going to God and knowing His will.
When I realized where I was wrong, I asked God for forgiveness and started listing out on a digital paper different things that God had done in my life and how He blessed me. Doing the exercise of remembering the goodness of God lead me to the song ‘Come thou fount of every blessing’, where there is a stanza about a ‘wandering heart’ that certainly resonated with my current situation. After singing the song and asking God to bind my wandering heart, His peace and satisfaction covered my heart and soon my heart was connected to God and I didn’t feel distant anymore.
Giving thanks, praising and worshipping God can definitely put us in the right space. Also, when we realize that we have done something that was not right in the sight of God, we need to ask Him for forgiveness and to cleanse us with the precious blood of Lord Jesus Christ so we can be set right with God again. His blood has the power to cleanse and redeem us from all sin so we should always readily ask God to forgive us and cleanse us.
I hope sharing my experience would help some of you to get closer to God when you’re feeling distant from Him.
Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.
